Terrier - Medium - Young - Male - Dog - Sadly, passed away
Description
Opie was a shelter dog who came into our rescue program with what our vet believed to be kennel cough. (Dogs quite often "catch" kennel cough from each other in shelter-type situations. It's the equivalent of the common "cold".) We treated Opie with antibiotics for several days, but his condition continued to worsen, so we rushed him to the Emergency Clinic where he spent several days. The doctors started him on fluids, antibiotics, and various other medications but....poor Opie passed away in spite of everyone's best efforts to save him. He was a very sweet dog, and it broke our hearts that he came so close to being rescued and finding a loving, forever home--but he died before he ever had a chance to enjoy a warm soft bed, he never had the chance to go for long walks with his family, and he never knew the comfort of having a family who loved him. If you are considering bringing a dog into your heart--and into your home--as a tribute to Opie please adopt a shelter or rescue dog rather than buying from a pet store or breeder. Several million dogs are euthanized in shelters every year--dogs just as wonderful and loving as Opie--because there aren't enough homes for all of them. Please don't encourage and support more dog breeding while dogs are dying because there aren't enough adopters for all of them. Be part of the solution--rather than part of the problem--by adopting a shelter or rescue dog!
